Stay on the cutting edge of innovation with AMS-designed converting machine controls and coordinated drive system retrofits
Today's competitive packaging marketplace requires speed and flexibility to meet the ever-changing demands placed on converters. AMS enjoys the challenge of solving motion and coordination problems for unique applications. A few of our recent projects include:
- Rotary die cutting of preprinted stock with precise registration requirements. If you have purchased a hot cup of coffee and slid a thermal sleeve onto it, chances are that sleeve was manufactured on an AMS-controlled Java-Jacket machine.
- High-speed manufacture of polybags requiring registration with a multiwall paper outer bag. AMS received an AMPLAS bag machine and retrofitted the control system along with adding several axes of motion to allow inline polybag production with built-in sonic welding of out-gassing valves. The polybag machine was integrated into a multiwall tube bag machine to provide poly-lined multiwall tube bags for the powdered milk industry.
- Sectionalized printing press servo retrofits for improved tension control and printing of both sides of web in perfect registration. AMS provided all new drives and controls for a variety of printing press applications. These systems provide a centralized control system that manage all tension zones, pneumatic brakes, rewind stands, CI, and Stack press configurations with registration control.
- Inline coordination of a CI printer and indexing box and carton die cutter. AMS provided new DC drives for a 75 hp box press along with sectionalized control of the printing press and indexing press feed. Production rates increased by 50% and registration of print and die cut box press improved to +/- 0.010 inches at feed rates of 300 fpm/100 indexes per minute.
- High-speed tissue paper printing for overwrap on consumer products. AMS provided retrofits for tissue overwrap printing presses including new rack-out controls and PLC/HMI upgrades.
- Automated multiwall tuber bag machines and bottomer sewing systems. AMS provided synchronized control of bag machines with downstream bottomer machines to reduce labor requirements and improve quality and throughput of bag production equipment.
AMS provides retrofit solutions for a broad range of converting equipment including Slitter Rewinders, Sheeters, CI and Stack Printing Presses, and specialty machines that integrate lamination, die cutting, and rewinding of packaging materials.
