Mechanical Engineer - Automation and Motion Control
Mechanical Engineer - Automation and Motion Control
Do you love being an engineer? Would you rather be an engineer than anything else? Does bad (or even just inelegant) mechanical design make you cringe?
Applied Motion Systems is a leading designer and builder of industrial automation and motion control systems serving paper, forest products, packaging and material handling industries. We are looking for a creative and motivated mechanical engineer with experience related to performance-oriented servo positioning systems. The successful candidate will thrive on electromechanical system design, and have a natural aptitude in applying Newtonian physics to mechanical systems in motion. We desire a seasoned and gifted mechanical engineer who can help to lead a team of developing mechanical engineers and accelerate our engineering strength and competence.
Required skills include proficiency with 3D solid modeling tools, FEA and kinematic analysis. AMS employs SolidWorks as a modeling tool for machine design, and Cosmos for FEA analysis in addition to Cosmos Motion for dynamic analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, excellent technical documentation skills, and familiarity with industry practices related to drive system design and fabrication methods including laser and water-jet cutting, machining, welding, casting, and heat treatment. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook is required, as is familiarity with ASME Y14.100-2000 drafting standards. AMS will consider candidates with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or significant experience in machine design. Candidates must have experience in designing mechanical drive systems employing a variety of motor technologies as well as demonstrate an understanding of precision positioning design practices. Hands-on electromechanical experience is highly desirable.
Responsibilities Include:
- Designing drive system components employing AC Servo and AC Vector motor technologies ranging from fractional horsepower to 150HP per axis.
- Understanding of various motor technologies to exploit inertia and torque characteristics.
- Designing motion stages for extreme environments including provisions for water cooling, shielding from debris, high pressure wash down, etc.
- Concept development, sales and service support, estimating and core engineering/design.
- Creating and maintaining drawing packages to ASME standards.
- Collaboration with other engineering and shop floor staff.
Benefits
AMS offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including medical, dental and vision coverage. If this ad describes you, please send us your resume - we would be happy to hear from you.
